Bounce Back Loans and Furlough. Are They Simply Delaying the Inevitable?
25th November 2020Each month, we take the opportunity to introduce one of our Business BASE members and offer some insight into their business. This month, we turn the spotlight on our resident accountant David Spencer and his company ChadSan.
David and his team are based locally in Leigh-on-Sea office, but this firm of chartered accountants, who offer tax, advisory and general accountancy services, also have offices in London and Guildford. A second London office plus one in Bristol are opening soon.
When the pandemic struck earlier this year, businesses of all sizes and from every sector were thrown into turmoil.
As a full lockdown was announced, it became more important than ever before to gain reliable, professional financial advice to understand the often confusing information that flooded the media.
In many ways the situation played to Chadsan’s strengths. Their ethos has always been to offer a client-focussed approach to build strong on-going relationships whilst utilising the latest technology available. They champion the Receipt Bank App which integrates with Zero and Quick Books to improve client profitability and efficiency
What action did Chadsan take?
Already familiar with virtual client meetings, ChadSan was able to seamlessly expand on this to advise on best practice and clarify the latest government initiatives. The whole team began working from home and adapted the format of their pre-Covid communications and ramping up their frequency. All Covid- related support was undertaken on a Pro-Bono basis and monthly retainers also frozen for a year.
This included:
- Weekly emails
- Covid -focussed newsletters
- A dedicated contact / nominated champion
- Weekly webinars
- Posting on social platforms
- Sharing of resources
From Bounceback loans, rent and mortgage holidays, grants and the tricky Furlough scheme, Chadsan clients received clear, unbiased and supportive advice.
As David says,
‘Ensuring we have excellent client communications, and that we respond quickly to enquiries has helped to allay some of the worry and confusion.’
The benefits of a strong networking group
As the pandemic started to gather strength, and Business Base members were unable to meet in person, it was considered important to support each other virtually via Zoom. Those early meetings were invaluable as they provided a welcome opportunity to share experiences and information. David regularly explained the latest Government initiatives and several excellent Q and A sessions certainly demystified things for our members.
Being part of such a strong networking group also offers the benefit of a wider support network for each member and their clients. With professional services including insurance, IT consultancy, marketing, accountancy, independent mortgage advice plus many associated specialities such as printing, commercial cleaning and photography it is easy to see why so many have remained a part of the group utilising the knowledge gained at each meeting from member presentations and guest speakers.
Business base is a not-for-profit organisation run ‘by the members for the members.’ Being part of a supportive and friendly group offers not only the principle of Business by Association’ but it also leads to friendships and wider positive experiences.
If you would like to attend a meeting as a guest please call…………..
